MOUNTAIN ROAD.
[from oor own ookbespondent.J
Ii is apparently the fashion nowadays to blazon forth to the whole world (oi 1 that I part of it that gets its daily paper) the merits oC the district ia which ono lives. I live in tlie Mountain Road district, and consider is is worthy of being better known than it apparently is. People will naturally want to know what part of the extensive Mountain Road district lam speaking of. "Well, in our district another important road crosses the Mountain Road, but just at present it is ia such a rough condition that I do not think it fit to mention it in a respectable paper. Suffice it to say that wo are a progressive district, and we hope to make ourselves better known to fame in the near future. One very great improvement has been made lately. The old 401bs (to the yd) rails are being taken out of the railway and replaced by rails weighing 651bs to the yard. As each of the new rails ia 10yds long, it will be seen that they are of a size sufficient to require "men" to lift them — and a better lot of men, physically, than those working here, would be hard to find. The sleepers are also being placed much closer in the new road, and the effect altogether is a, wonderful improvement on tlie old style of " anything's good enough." I hope soon to'be able to chronicle further improvements in directions where they are certainly required.
