B A LEIGH TOWN BOABE. [FROM OUR OWN OOBBEBPQNDrtNT J The newly appointed Board met on Monday evening Present : Messrs Brewer, Dovtr, Pearce, Fraser, Ogle, Joll, and Hignett. The Heturoing Officer read the result of the poll and called for nominations for the position of chairman. Mr Pearce moved, and Mr Joll seconded, that Mr Og'e be appointed chairman. Mr Ogle thanked the members and said he could not accept the position. He then proposed Mr Pearce. The motion was seconded by Mr Dover. Mr Hignett proposed Mr Joll, who also declined. There being no other nominations, Mr Pearce was declared duly elected. Mr Pearce brit fly thanked the members for the honour, and said as in the past he would do for the future all that lay in his power to look after the best interests of the place. A circular was received from the Ohinerauru County Council in reference to objections they were making in reference to certain clauses in the Municipal Franchise Bill, and if. was resolved on the motion of Messrs Joll and Pearce to support the Council. The clerk wa9 instructed to obtain a copy of local government law of New Zealand from Messrs Whitcombe & Tdmbf. Twenty one applicttions for transfer were received, fifteen of which were granted, the clerk to ascertain before next meeting the nature of transfer of the remaining Bix. Accounts amounting to £66 Oa 7d were passed for payment. The following committees were appointed :— Works : Messrs Pearce, Joll, Fraser, and Dover. Cemetery : Messrs Hignett, Ogle, and Brewer. Mr Hignett brought up the matter of cutting furze on the road to the flagstaff, the matter being left in the hands of the Works Committee to deal with. Mr Hignett gave notice to move ac next meeting of the Board, That in order to prevent any further burials in the footpaths at the Waitara Cemetery, that the footpaths be formed and gravelled with as little delay as possible. The Board then rose.
There is quite an exodus of people from Waitara to-day (Wednesday) called by a grateful (?) country to serve as jurymen. Strange that so small a -place is compel'ed to fl ad such a large proportion of the juries. A meeting of thoseinteiestedin holding a floral i Ste was held on Tuesday evening, Bey. F. W. Walker presiding. After consideiable discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Buchanan, seconded by Mrs Chapman, 1 hat a floral leLe be held in Mr Biddell's grounds on Thursday, November 24th. Those present formed themselves into a general Committee, with power to add to their number, Mr B A. Hignett being appointed secretary. 'I he following sub committees were formed : —Amusement, Misses Snell, Tate, tloby, Edwards, Messrs Jay, Nosworthy, and Buchanan ; Provisions, Mesdames' Walker, Matthewd, Chapman, Jones, Wyllie, Ptoddart, and .others. Ib is proposed to throw the grounds open to the public at 12 oc'ock, the procession to take place at 2 p.m. The charge for admission bar bsen fixed at one shilling for adult- and sixpence for children. The amusement committee meet on Friday evening next to discuss details, the provi sion committee meeting the same afternoon. Already numbers of promises of support have been given, and the affair has every likelihood of proviog a success.
