Stranding of the Mapourika.
REPORT ON HER POSITION. [per press association.] Greymouth, October 5. — The following is a report of the position of the «.s Mapourika to day :—lt: — It was blowing a hard south west gale and heavy sea all day. The bow of the ship lies in very deep water, and the heavy head strong sea made it impossible for those in charge of her to do anything in the way of repairs, which are absolutely necessary to be done before the vessel can be made easy. Five hawsers were put out at the stern, and one at each bow, which had the effect of placing the stern of the vessel further away from the' north of the breakwater. The vessel is I so embedded in the shingle by the reason of so much water being in the forehold that it is at present impossible to get her any nearer the shore. Mr Daniel is hopeful that if the sea will only go down for a tide or two he will be able to save the ship, which so far has not received any practical damage by reason of the present sea The engine- room is now tight and steam is available for all purposes, which is a very important power.
