TARANAKI LICENSING COMMITTEE.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting was hold in the Court-house at noon on Friday. Present : Messrs E. L. Stanford, S.M. (Chairman), J. S. McKellar., W. Bayly, F. Mace, and E.Maxwell. * Transfers applied for : — Red House Hotel from H. Hammond to J. Hawkins was granted. MrHutchen for applicant. The police report for ths last quarter was favorable except with reference to to tho licensee of the Moturoa, the police making certain objections. j s Mr Samuel, for Mr Hawke, the licensee, said tnat arrangements had been made to transfer tha license from Mr Hawke to Mr J. Diamond, of. Wanganui, and effect would bo given to this on Tuesday next. He believed that un3er these circumstances the Inspector of Police would withdraw the objection. Mr Samuel also stated that the Moturoa Hotel, recently destroyed by fire, would be, he understood, by next meeting rs-erected at a more suitable sit*. Inspector McGovern ssid that if the license were transferred hi would not object. He had communicated with Wanganni re tha new licensee, and had received a most favorable report. His Worship Baid that he and two members of the Committee could deal with the transfer on Tuesday next, as provided under the Licensing Act. He added that the Committee w*re of opinion that for the convenience of the public a new site should be chosen for the hotel, and they hoped that negotiations for a new sits would be successful.
