ANONYMOUS LETTERS.
[to the editor.] Sir,—l saw in Friday's Herald an account, also a copy of an anonymous letter. Years ago here that sort of thing waa understood, but now, since New Plymouth has become such a prominent oity, (thanks to its petroleum creating. such .a stir throughout the world), tomfoolery like this is out of place. It shoq-s, I think a lack of propriety among the public in not sitting on people of this kind who «ndeavour to be funny at another's 4expense. And I was surprised you did not Bpeak strongly on the subject, for if you were to do so, I am sure you would protect many from being subjected to theis " clever and side-splitting" letters. Trusting I have not taken nptoo much of your valuable space.—l am, etc., " Orthodox."
