The time to appeal in connection with the Government opposition to the proposed amendment of the patent for the cyanide process having expired without an appeal being made, the public have been relieved, of 10 per cent royalty previously demanded for the use of the process. Tho effect is apparent in the rush for sand tailings, which, were previously considered useless.
A reward of £100 is offered for information leading to the arrest of Geake, the absconding solicitor from Daylesfo-d, He is believed to have left for Amorica.
Sydney, June 29.
The decision of the Land Board in the fourteen remaining cases of alleged dummyistn in connection with the Mcrcadool Block has been given. The Board found dummyism proved in each case, and recommended the forfeiture of the whole of the selections, including that of Wilson, whose ense was heard some time ago. The defendants will appeal against the decision.
News from the Islands states that tribal fighting is rampant iv Malayta, in the Solomon Group. In revenge for a pig stalking expedition a body of natives attacked a village, and killed a dozen of the inhabitants. Since then the whole district has been engaged in retaliatory head hunting expeditions.
Perth, June 29. A Swede named Anderson attempted to murder a young woman named Watson to-night by shooting her. He fired two shots from a revolver, both of which took effect, but fortunately a vital spot was not struck, and there is every chance of the girl recovering, though her wounds are severe. Anderson, after, as he supposed, despatching his Tictim, turned the weapon upon himself, and the missile passing through his heait, death was almost instantcnous. No cause is assigned.
