OAKURA.
[from our own correspondent.] Nothing special has been going on here lately except the annual meeting of ratepayers, which was held at the school on May 6th. Owing to bad weather :tho attendance was small, and as thera wa» no election, not much interest was taken The Chairman of the Road Boanl read the balance-sheet for the past year. There appears to be a considerable amount of rates unpaid, and until thecolleotor takes proceedings against defaulters this will always be the case, and that is an unpleasant thing to have to do. The '"same with furze on the roads ; until the Board compels some of the occupiers" to clew their frontages, there will always be foMfc. The new Board consist of Messrs Pearson. Ellerm, Mills, and Shaw. ' • A meeting of the trustees of the Hall was held the same evening, when a little ■ business was transacted.
I hear a petition is being signed to upset the School Committee eleotion. I suppose some are not satisfied with the one man committee, as is reported about how the thing goes, but I think a little spite is at the bottom of it all. If another election has to be held, I hope all wilt turn up to teat the election properly.
