TO THE EDITOK. '' Sir,—Anyone reading your report of the meeting of the above Society cannot help feeling that the present and future generations will ever feel grateful for the torethought and action taken by the promoters of tho above Society, alsa seeing their efforts are being recognised by the public. I would, if the Committee would not consider it an impertinence, bring under their notice a very nice picturesque piece of natural scenery situated a few chains beyond the Oaonui river bridge, on both sides of the main South Road to. Opunake. Anyone travelliug this war must feel what a loss has been sustained by the natives having destroyed some of it, but still there is time if the Public. Trustee could be induoed to take steps to have it set aside and handed over to your able Committee. I will relate what the late Governor, Lord Onslow, said to a deputation (of which I was one) at Opunake on the 11th December, 1890. > when relating his trip, viz., " That thiß piece of scenery was as beautiful as any he had seen, and it would be a pity i£ such was destroyed." No' doubt, Cfta several whose names appear as being at the meeting know this part intimately, they will bear out what I say, and may therefore take action to secure such for a colonial purpose.
