TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.

MR GOYETT'S BUILDINGS. A handsome block of buildings, erected fer Mr C. W. Govott, at the corner of Devon and Liardet-streets, is now receiving the finishing touches inside, and in the course of a few days will leave the workmen's hands. Tho block, which adds materially to the appearance of tho main thoroughfare in the locality, has a frontage of 43f fc to Devon-street, (52ft to Liardet-street, and a height in front of 36ft. It is two storied. There are three shops .facing Devon-street, aud on the Liardet-streot frontage there is the entrance to the private upstairs apartments, which are reached by an easy staircase. The corner shop is 28ft x 18ft, with private entrance and staircase immediately at tho back, and then again on the ground floor a room 18ft x lift. The upstairs rooms connected with this shop are three, the front one being 18ft x 9ft, next 13ft x 9Aft, and back one 18ft x lift. The middle shop is 18ft x lift, with two back rooms, ll^ft x 10ft. and lift x Bft respectively. Upstairs apartments connected with this shop are : —Front room, ll£ft by 9£ft, middle room, Bft x 7£ft, and back ono ll^ft x 10ft. The third shop is 18ft by ll£ft, with back room (llift x 10ft) and bakery at back with oven. The top rooms connected with this are similar to those over the middle shop. Each shop has a yard provided with every convenisnee. The building is made of rimu framing and lining of walls, and matai flooring and outside boarding. The timber and joinery were supplied by Messrs H. Brown & Co. The shops and> apartments are well lighted byj.Britisli sheet glass windows. A verandah-will adorn the Devon-street frontage and 28 feet of the Liardet-street side. Mr Sanderson was the architect and Mr C. Webberly the contractor. The sub-contractors were : — Painting and paperhanging, Mr A. Cleland ; masonry, Mr Back ; plastering, Mr Freeman ; plumbing, Mr Cummane.
