FATAL BATHING ACCIDENT. Napier, January 18. A party of young ladies went for a picnic on the banks of the Tntaeknri river on Thursday. Three of them — Myra Cunningham, Ella McVay, and Buth Foster — went in to bathe. Hiss Cunningham got out of her depth. Miss McVaf went to her assistance, and also got into trouble. Miss Foster went after Miss McVay, but finding that she was also getting beyond her depth turned, and reached shore in an exhausted condition. Her cries had called the attention of some lads, ope of whom — Frank Glover — went to the assistance of the other yoang ladies He managed, at great risk, to save Mis 3 McVay, who struggled wildly, and Glover migh'i have been drowned had not another boy named Fred Smith gone to his assistance. Miss Cunningham was drowned, her body not being recovered for an hour acd a-half afterwards. She was the daughter of a former rtm-holder of Loburn, near Eaugiora and Pohui, Hawke'3 Bay.
