MIDHIRST.
(from our own correspondent.) May 30. — The school concert took place as arranged on 24th May. The evening was wpt, aud the attendance consequently was only moderate. The singers, however, turned up without exception, and there was a good programme well executed. Iv addition to those who have been of fceu before a Midhirst audience, viz., Mr Hamilton, and Misses Pedcrsen, Scott, and Hamilton, there were lothers less known, but w2:p, on this occasion, i acquitted themselves remarkably well, and were very highly applauded, ! viz., Mesdames Serjeant and Hunt; Misses Pews, Woolley, and Allen, and i Messrs Tarplee, M. Rodgers, J. Scott and . "Watson. The school children, trained by 1 Miss Morton, rendered, very nicely, a ' pretty song, entitled the " Fairies." Tho » entertainment was Concluded by a farce, 1 in which Misses McKay and Pedersen and > Messrs F. and IL. Pedersen, Derby, and Clifford took part ; the parts were well sustained, that of the precise matron being strikingly delineated by Miss McKay. On Tuesday evening an entertainment by the Huia Minstrels (a local troupe) Tvas given in the ' hall.' The weather was ! again unfavorable but there was a fair 1 attendance and the entertainment was apparently much appreciated. The inevitable dance concluded both the gatherings referred to. i The state school is to be examined byl ; -Mr Murray on the 6th and 7th June. •
