The promoters of Thursday night's entertainment sincerely hope that the public of New Plymouth will Bhow appreciation of their efforts by one and all patronising their concert. We would draw the attention of oar readers to the programme, every item on which is high class. The prices of admission are most popular, and aro surely within everyone's means. If the night should prove fine there is surely everything to induce people to attend, apart from the object for which the entertainment has been got up. The promoters have been actuated solely by the earnest wish to help tbe Recreation Grounds io their present state of impocuniosity. With this end in view they have gone to endlesß trouble to secure the help of all the combined talent of New Plymouth, in the hope that the citizens of this town will do their share (which cannot fail to be a very agreeable one) in purchasing tickets and uttending tho concert. Thore is every reason why there should be a hamper houßO. Tickets may be obtained at Mr J. Qihuour's. Tbe last case on the Supreme Court calendar was heard to day (Wednesday) W. Humphries proceeded against Karma To Ha to compel him to carry out an agreement in respect to selling 8 acres of land at Pukototara. The plaintiff claimed that he bought the land, and paid Karma for it, and an agreement was drawn up Mr F. W. Richmond appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr Roy for the defendant. The case was proceeding when wo went to press; Captain Edwin wired at 1.10 p m. to-day : "North to west and south -west gale, with
rain and heavy sea after ten hours from , now. Glass fall. Indications for high tides and for very strong ebb tidca in the Straits." To morrow Mr Newton King will Bell by auction, under distress warrant, the plant, appliances, and goodwill of leate of the Petroieum and Iron Syndicate Com pany, full particulars of wliich will be seen on reference to advertisement. The sale takes place ut 11 o'clock, A lodge of the M U. Oddfellows will be opened by the district officers at Mid hirst on Friday evening. This will make the seventh lodge in the district.
