HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Harbor Board waß held on Wednesday. Fretent : Me era Bewley, Connett, George, Teed, E. M.. Smith, M.H.R., farten Maxwell, and Chairman.— As Mr Cock was absent on account of being a wilneßß at the Supreme Court, Mr Bewley was elected to the cliair. Land at Moturoa— Ut M. Cunningham wrote stating that the Board's offer to give up balance of lease of land at Moturoa recently purchased by him was prohibitive, and he could not accept it.— The ActingChairman said tho Board offered the balance for £20.— Mr Cunningham also cave the Board notice to grub and keep t to land clear of furze.— Mr Connett said tho Works Committee had a recommendation to make on the matter. Stone for Baxlxoay— The Railway Department wrote asking pneo for 300 tons of stone for railway protection work. —The secretary said that the matter waa repotted on by the Works Committee. Landing Mails.— - The Postmaster wrote stating that tho Department gave the Board £60 per annum for landing and shipping mails at the harbor. He pointed out that there was only a verbal agree ment, and the receipt of mails on ordinary days was not altogether satisfactory, ho suggested that an employee of the Board should receive and count tho bags, and lock them away in a truck till the train arrived He, therefore, considered a written bond should bo entered into between tbe Board and Pt/Stal Department.- The ActingChairman said tho application was a reasonable one, and he could see no reason for non-acquießcenco.— The question was deferred.

Moluroa fteame .—The Mt. Egmont Freezing Comoany wrote relative to purohase o£ the Board's steam tender Moturoa. The Company wanted the steamer for towing meat punts, but dteired a trial. — A discussion arose on the question of the value of tho steamer, £100 having been given as the price, and on tbe question of giving the Company a trial of the steamer.— Mr Georue finally moved, " That the Mt Egmont Freezing Company be givon a weok from date to accept the offer of the tug Moturoa at the price mentioned by the secretary, and on the expiring of that period the offer be withdrawn. — Seconded by Mr Smith.— Mr Sarten said he woul J like to see the company have a trial of the boat, and he moved aa an amendment, " That the Moturoa be offered to the Mt Egmont Company for a trial provided the necessary carpentering repairs are done." — The amendment wbb not seconded and lapßed, and Mr George's motion waß then; put and carried. At this Btage Mr Cock arrived, and took his seat as chairman.
