FIRE IN QUEEN-STREET.
A fire was discovered in Mr H. J. Hunsyfield's old Union Flour Mill in Queen-street about 10 o'clock on Saturday night. An alarm was quickly raised, and the Fire Brigade respond ;d promptly, and soon extinguished the flumes. It seems that Mr Richard Jury was proceeding home when he detected a column of smoke blowing seawards along Queen street, and in looking for tho cause found that it proceeded from tbo old portion of the mill, which is considerably below the street lo.el. He and Mr Bailey, who happened to bo passing at the timo raised the alarm The first persons on the scene salvaged 47 baga of oats belonging to Mr M. Jones, from the new portion of the building. Owing to tho fire being situated in the portion of the building that was almost wholly protected from the wind, the firo made slow progress, and was easily put out by tho brigade. An investigation showed that the firo was in the machine room, whore it had dono about £50 worth of damage. The origin of tbe fire is a myßtery, but it is presumed that some person might have been sleeping in the premises (which have not besn in übo, except for occasional storage, for about seven yearn), and accidentally ignited soms material in the macbino room. The building was insured in the South British for £200.
