The modns vivendi agreed to with respect to the Behring Sea dispute will probably be renewed for a year, pending the result of the arbitration. BOOTMAKERS' STRIKE. Tqe Bristol bootmakers' strike has been referred to arbitration. MUTTON FAMINE IN PARIS. Paris, February 2. A mutton famine is threatened in tho city, owing to tho great increase in tho tariff. ATTEMPT TO BURN A CASTLE. Berlin, - February 2. An unsuccessful attempt was made by an incendiary to burn down the Koyal Castle at Konigsberg. The rafters of the tower were found to be saturated with petroleum. CRUELTY BY SERGEANTS. A number of sergeants has been imprisoned for periods ranging from two to five years for inhuman treatment of men. POPE ILL. Rome, Fobruary 2. The Pope is prostrated by a severe cold. ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION. If the Antai*ctic exploration expedition , equipped by Mr David Gray, of Peterhead, and Baron Oscar Dickson, of Gothenburg, and which is to be under the command of a son of Baron Nordenskgold, turns out a success, Baron Dickson is likely to send Dr Hansen to spend a year in the Antarctic region? on his return from the polar expedition. Dr Hanson considers that the failure to raise funds in Australia for the Antarctic expedition was tho result of bad management. ZEALANDIA ARRIVED HOME. Arrived : Zealandia, ship, from Lyttelton (October 23). RISING IN INDIA. Calcutta, February 2. The rising at Pahang, near Penang, has been suppressed, but the leaders fled nto the jungle and escaped capture. RECALL OF EGAN FROM CHILE.
