PAHIATU POISONING CASE.
ACT SUPPOSED TO BE A WILFUL ONE. The Pahiatua poisoning case promises developments of a very serious character. Mr Naylor, senr., from the first, had strong suspicions that the poison had been placed in the food'ajbyytdesign. It now would appear, if the -suspicions of the police are correct, that there was good foundation for Mr Naylor's suspicions, and the inquiries of the police go to show that his statement of the case appears to bo thoroughly borne out. The Woodville Examiner gives the following as certain reliable information :—: — " The poison, it is certain, was arsenic. It was placed in , the meat cut up into slices which was us .'(I at the fatal meal. Tho time when it was done was between 12 and 1 o'clock, and it was deliberately placed there with a malicious purpose. The police have of course suspicion of the miscreant wh » was tho cause of this terriblo tragedy, and hope to have the chain of evidenco completed veiy shortly. If tho theory of tho police w co.rect, the tragedy will prove one of tho most revolting in tho annals of New Zealand crime." ,|l'KB PBBSS ASSOCIATION. ] Pahiatua, January 12. — It is not expected that any evidence will be adduced at the inquest/m the poisoning ca3o inculpating anyono. All resoarcho3 so far have failed to elucidate the cause of the catastrophe; but some of tho victims are still too weak to make any statement.
