On Monday Mr J, F. Hooker found it necessary to shoot the horse belonging to him that was injured tho day previous at Tapuae, as on examination it was discovered that the main bone of the animal's near fore leg was broken and the shoulder shattered. The London Art Union specimen picture for 1892 is now to be seen in Mr J. Bellringer's shop window. The picture represents the escape of H.M.S, Calliope from Apia harbour* "during tho hurricane that raged on March 16, 1889, Tho illustration shows the Calliope in the critical position of passing the wrecked American war vessel Triton, whose crew gave the British sailors a hearty cheer as the Calliope passed. Mr C. Rennell is the agent for ! the Art Union. A very representative meeting was held in the Couithouse on Monday night for the '< purpose of making arrangements to receive the company of boys from Dr Barnardo's Homes. Archdeacon Govett was in the I chair. The secretary, Mr C. E. Bellringer, oxplained that all the party would now be accommodated, as Major Brown bad offered to take in two boys ; and Mr Carthew the assistant master of the company. The meeting then made arrangements for their performances. Portraits of the boys are to be seen in Mr J. Bellringer's and Mr J. Gilmour's shop windows.
