HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Thursday, September 17.—The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The whole of the afternoon was taken up with local bills in Committee, of Which Mr Fish was chairman. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m., and resamed again at 7.30 p.m. The House went into Committee of Suppl^'for consideration of the estimates. Legislative Department—£l4,939. The first vote reduced by £1, as indications that the House wished the Government (instead of Speaker) to have tho control of the Legislative Estimate. Colonud Secretary Department —grand total, £72,696. Audit Vote—£s,73l, was withdrawn, in order that the Govermont might bring down an increased vote on the Supplementary Estimates. Registrar - General's Department — £19,005, passed unaltered. Several motions to reduce salaries or cut off the increases were being rejected by large majorities whon progress was reported. The House rose at 4 a.m.
