GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Thursday, September 17. —The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p.m. The Public Trust Office Bill, the Supreme Court Bill, and the Government >Life Insurance Bill were put through their final stages. The Council adjourned at 5.30 p.m^ and assembled again at 7.30 p.m., The Municipal Corporations Bill was considered in Committee. Clause 6, enabling one per cent, for general rate to be applied to certain purposes unauthorised by law, was struck out, and a new clause inserted exempting cbaritablo institutions, and schools not carried on for profit from rating. Light from Crown Lands Restriction, School Committees Election, and tho Water Supply Bills was slightly amended in Committee. The Rabbit Nuisance Bill and the Birds Nuisance Bill was put through their final stages. The Payment of Members Bill having bnen reinstated on tb < Order Paper, Mr Buckley moved that it be now read a second time, when Mr Miller proposed as an amendment" That the bill be finally laid aside." The amendment was carried by 18 to 5, without debate. The Council rose at 10.30 p.m.
