The Taranaki Agricultural Society held its Exhibition of Stock this year in St. Germain's Square on Tuesday, last, and the weather being fine, considering' the many other attractions, there was a very large attendance of visitors. Tho exhibits of horses were not very large, some of the classes not having an entry. The chief competition was for ladies' and weight-carrying hacks, ponies, and carriage and buggy horses. In Cattle, Mr A. Fantham and Mr Olson were the chief prizetakers, M>- A. J. Hoskin's shorthorn was highly comnieuded. In Sheep, Mr Fantham carried off the prizo for the champion ram; Mr R. Street first prize for Leicester ram; and Mr A. J. Hoskin for Leicester ewes. lie also had several pens of very superior sheep, some of which he took first prizo for, and others highly commended. Mr J. C. Honeyfield showed the fattening capabilities of our district with his steers. iYles3rs Wost & Jury took the prize for pair buggy horses. Mr H. Hammond, of the Rod House, had tiro publican's booth, and Mr T. Lock the refreshment stall. Wo are indebted to Mr C. T. Mills, the energetic Secretary, for information given, and he performed his arduous duties with considerable abilty and tact. v We append the prize list: — HORSES. Judges: Messrs J. Shield, J. Blood filly or gelding from July Ist, 1887: Richardson's Vavasour, sire Dauphin, Ist prize; blood filly or gelding from July Ist, 1888: Warnocic's gelding, sire Australian, Ist prize. Draught mare: Haigh's Rose, Ist prize; Tate's Diamond, highly commended. Pair draught horses, shown in harness: T. Bayly's Duke and Blossom, Ist prize. Lady's hack: Leatham's Sum- j merday, Ist prize; Anderson's Lady Alice, j 2nd prize. Weight carrying hack, up to 15 stone: R. Bay ley's Lad, Ist prize; Glassford's War Eagle, 2nd prize. Weight carrying hack, up to 12 stone: Anderson's Lady Alice, Ist prize; Richardson's Wil Ham, 2nd prize. Hack, to carry 12 stone | over such jumps as tho Committee may j direct : Richardson's Tommy, Ist prize; Glassford's War Eagle, 2nd prize. Pony, not over 13^ hands, to be ridden by boys: Halcombe's Dandy, Ist prize ; Bewley's Thor, 2nd prize. Pony trotting match, under 13 hands, to be ridden by boys under 14 years: Mace's Fly, Ist prize; Honeyfield 8 Satan, 2nd prize. Trap horse (to be shown and driven in harness): Richardson's Darkey, Ist prize; J. Veale's Charlie, 2nd prize. Carriage or buggy horse (to be shown and driven in harness) : Anderson's Lady Alice, Ist prize; Bewley's Rose, 2nd prize; Leatham's Don, 3rd prize. Pair carriage or buggy horses (to be shown and driven in harness) : West and Jury's Atlantic and Donald, Ist prize.
