POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY. Monday, January 26.— Before 0.0. Kettle', Esq., R.M. MAINTENANCE ORDER. Elizabeth Sarah Butler v. Edward Butler. This case, which was adjourned from last Monday, was one in which the complainant sought to make the defendant (her husband) pay up arrears 'of maintenance under, an, order ot the Court, iis Worship informed Mrs Butler ho had communicaicd with the defendant who wrote to the clerk of the Court, stating that he (the defendant) was in Opunake, that at present he could not pay anything towards the support of his family, but that he would pay something, as soon as he could. Under the circumstances, His Worship said he intended to adjourn the case for a fortnight, in order to give the defendant a chance of paying something of the arrears for maintenance. It.was no use imprisoningdefendant for contempt of Court, as ho thought of doing, bscause that would not get the money out of him. The case would therefore be adjourned till February 10, and in the interval the Clerk of the Court would write to the defendant about making some payment under the order. The Court rose.
