POLITICAL NEWS.
THE GOVERNMENT'S COURSE. JPKR PRESS ASSOCIATION, | Wellington, January 21. — Another Cabinet meeting was held this morning, at which the final determination of the Government was arrived at. Though it is not officially announced, there is no doubt the result is this : — The Cabinet will resign before the House meets, and if the Governor afks their advice, which is optional with him, they will recommend him to send for Mr BaUance. It is also understood Sir Harry Atkinson will assume the Speakership of the Upper House, there being no constitutional difficulty in the way, as was supposed. Theothernominations to the Uppet House will be confined to six, but the names are not yet made known. Messrs Fulton, Ormond, Whyte, Johnston, and Downie Stewart are sup posed to be certainties. A meeting of the Government supporters is convened for 4 p.m., but another will have to be held on Friday, at which it will be finally decided whether Mr Rolleston shall be nominated for the Speakership. The appointments to the Legislative Council are those already telegraphed, and C. C. Bowen. The Premier resigns his seat in the House of Representatives to-day, and will be appointed Speaker of the Legislative Council on Friday.
