PETROLEUM AN D IRON SAND COMPANY.
TO THE UUrOL. Sir, — Allow me to thank you for your promptness in giving to your numerous readers the glad and welcome news of the arrival of Mr Booth and his staff of skilled borers, together with their splendid boring plant and machinery. That, together with tho fact of tho direct steamers calling at Waitara, is the starting of a new state of things ou this coast. Go it, my boys, the start is made, and in ten years the old state of things will be forgotten and lost in the busy noise of commercial activity. But, ( sir, what I want to say is, I should like to see a soiree and concert and ball, to be given by the citizens in honor . of Mr Booth and his men, and to celebrate the starting of so important an industry. Hoping that now I have started the ball rolling, it will be taken up and acted on — a picnic. I am one who believes the district will prosper by its mineral deposits ' being developed. — I am, &c, E. M. Smitii.
