A MASONIC MANIFESTO.

• *$£ LORD ONSLOW'S CIRCULAR TO THE MASONS. I VKR PRESS ASSOCIATION/] Wellington, November 18. — A circular, dated November 18th, has been addressed by Lord Onslow, P.G.W., to the Masters oi all the Masonic lodges which have not yet joined the New Zealand Constitution. It says he has witnessed with pain and regret the dissensions which the conflict of opinion in the colony on the subject of the Grand Lodge has caused among the Masons and the outside world. These dissensions cannot but throw doubts on the sincerity of Masonic professions. It is even to be feared that circumstances might arise which would necessitate an appeal to the Law Courts to settle matters in dispute among lodges as to property belonging to the craft. Under these circumstances, as the only Past Grand Warden oC England in New Zealand, he ventures to hope some step* may be speedily taken to put an end to the existing- state of things. He then goes on to point out that the establishment and recognition by all the other Grand Lodges of such a body as the Grand Lodge o£ New Zealand is nothing new. In Australasia these bodies work in perfect harmony with the Grand Lodge of England, and by their vigorous independence adding to tho vitality and catholicity of Freemasons throughout the world. Tho Grand Lodge of New Zealand, therefore, would be an innovation, and would reflect no stigma on tho loyalty of Freemasons. The position of the District Grand Masters is a difficult one, and whatever action they may have taken on this question must bo looked on as an oxcrcise of their plain duty I to the Grand Lodge, whose officers they are. Although this matter must not bo " discussed in open lodge, the members might discuss the matter a.tnoog themselves, with a view of ascertaining each other's opinion. In conclusion, he invites an expression of views on the matter, and s>.iy-«, personally, he shall esteem it a privilege to assi.it the cause of Masonry in New Zealand, and if his feelings of regret are shared by the brethren of all the Constitutions throughout the colony, he will be prepared to suggest a plan which ho has every hope will result in the restoration of a proper Masonic feeling between tho several Constitutions.

A man was killed by a circular saw, and in his obituary notice it was stated that ho. wan " a good c-itizun, an upright man, and an ardont patriot, but of limited inforjuif lipa with regard to circular wye,"
