It waß rumored a week or bo ago, say 3 the Opunake correspondent of the Hawera Star, that the Taranaki County Council had suspended all works, except no doubt the road repairs, contracts, on account of ife banker wishing the heavy overdraft reduced. It is a pity this step was not taken some years ago, and defeated the mad fashion in which the present Council has increased it steadily.
