THE RINK CARNIVAL.
The Rink Carnival held in the Alexandra Hall on Monday afternoon and night in aid of the funds of the Cricket Club was most successful. In the evening the attendance was very large, but the number that trusted themselves on the rollers was much smallerthan one would haveexpected to see. This waa said to be accountable to the scarcity of rollers'in the town. There were some fancy and character costumes to be noticed among the rinkers. A polo match was played during the evening, and afforded some little excitement to the onlookers. The Rifles Band, under Bandmaster Garry, were present, and played inspiriting music. The proceeds from the Carnival amount to about £20, and the Cricket Club expect that they will net a profit of between £12 and £15 out of the venture. The members of the Club worked hard to make the Carnival a success, but the greatest credit is due to Mr Ad. Goldwater, who, as honorary secretary, worked most energetically to make things successful.
