EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Tuesday. Present : Miss Heywood, Mrs Richmond, Messrs T. Kolly (chairman), Bauchope, Fftull, Olson, Adlam, Andrews, and Syino. Pukearuhe. — Mr Bell's rosignution of the Pukearuho School at tho end of January was accopted, and the question of filling the vacancy wan referred to tho Inspector, who was to arrange and report to tho Board. Tataraimnfat . — Miss Mary Mills wrote, resigning the Tataraiinaka School tit the end of February. — Resignation was accepted, and steps were to be taken- to (il! the vacancy. A Rcltict'on. — It was decided to redncc the cl-arge to £1 against the Bell Block Committee for the milking, &c, of. tin Upland Road School well. Road School site.— lt was decided to accept no tender, but to authorise the architect to expend £5 in clearing what is absolutely necessary. Approved. — The action of the chairman in authorising the Bell Block Committee in giving the teaclier of the Egmont Road School a week's leave on account of sickness was approved. — The action of the chairman was also confirmed in respect of allowing Mr Dencker, of Lower Kent Road, an extra week's holiday, in order to allow him to sit for examination at Nelson. Wortley Eoad.—Tho Board granted an oven to tiie Inglewood Committee for the Wortley Road residence on the usual conditions. — The same Committeeo was to be informed that the Architect would report on the condition of the Wortloy Road School at an early date. Auditor. — Tenders were received for the position of auditor of the School Committees' accounts, Mr P. C. Morton's tender of £8 8s being accepted on division. The Cape School. — The Inspector reported that the only available cottage for use as a school in the Cape District was one, known to the Board, on the Parihaka Road, the weekly rental of which was 4s. — Mr Syme moved, '' That the Inspector be instructed to arrange for the cottage at Parihaka Road for a temporary school to be established on the basis of a capitation grant of £3 los on each strict average attendance-"— Seconded by Mr Adlam. — On division the motion was negatived : Ayes (2), Messrs Syme and Adlam ; Noes (6), Miss Heywood, Mrs Richmond, the Chairman, Messrs Andrews, Olson, and Faull. — This practically settles the Cape Road School question for the time being. Appointment. — Miss E. Eennell was appointed pupil teacher to the West Infants School. Accounts. — Accounts amounting to £19 18s were passed for payment. The Board rose.
