POLICE COURT.

'P3H.IS DA.V. Saturday, November 23. — Before C. E. Rawson, Esq., R..M. _ ALLEGED WIFE DESERTION. William Johnston, on remand, was charged with intent to desert his wife, Lotiisa, and her child. Mr Pardy said that if His Worship would be here on Monday the cases might be taken after two cases of larceny that were charged against the accused, and which were postponed till Monday. His Worship said he would be away on Monday. Mr Pardy then asked accused if he would like the two charges of larceny to be heard then instead of Monday. Accused replied that lie would prefer that course. LARCENY. The same accused then pleaded guilty to stealing at Midhirst, on or about November 5, one serge waistcoat, and one serge cape, valued at ss, the property of Peter Dalziell. He also pleaded guilty to stealing one pair of patent gold solitaires valued at ss, the property of Henry Towler, on or about the same date, and at the same place. His Worship said that as accused had pleaded guilty he would not impose the full penalty. The sentence of the Court would be that the accused be imprisoned, with hard labor, for 5 months on each charge, the sentences to run concurrently. Mr Pardy said that he wonld withdraw the charge of wife desertion, and if when he came out of gaol, accused took his wife away with him then there would be no necessity to proceed further in the matter. He thought this would be the better way. The charge was* then withdrawn. The Court rose.
