SAD BUT TRUE.
SAD, Pessimists generally, and tbe retailers of 11 cheap" Contin«ntal and buglieh watches in parlicalur, often go considerably out ot their way to demonstrate that the " rage for the Waterbury is wnning." Such is not the case, however, aa the Waterbury Watoh Factory is still unable with all its increased facilities to keep pace with the demand. Oat oE the 35,000 Waterbarys imported into New Zealand during the last two yeurs there is not a single case in the hands of tho Company's representative, who has been obiiged during the past week to repurchase a parcel from the New Zealand Hardwure Company to temporarily supply ihe demand in Christchurch until f next shipment arrives. Aa an instance or "he thirst for the correct time in the Cathedral City, we may mention that a gentleman who had not the necessary thirteen and sixpence to acqaiie •ne in the usual way, tried " burgling" as a substitute, and will have an opportunity of reflecting on the Buccesa of his enterprise daring the three months of his " board and residence" in the cemf ortable gaol of that city. The watch is no doubt worth the sentence, but we do not publish this as a premium to burglary.
