The: Board met on Wednesday, Bth inst. Messrs Perm (ohairman), Branigan, G. N. Curtis, C. Curtis, and Mnlree were present. The minuteß of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence. — From Town Clerb,New Plymouth, statins? that the regulation height of verandahs above the kerbing was Bft clear; from Mangonui Road Board re storm water on East and Pembroke Roads; from Mr Mulree, asking that the footpath should be extended northwards from his store; from Mr N. Hooker, asking that the time of tendering for concrete work oppoBite Messrs Curtis' store should be extended a few days, and that the specifications should be sent to New Plymouth. Tenders. — The following tenders were received fer tho concrete footpath: — W. Rowe and Walsh, £16 for 6in., £20 for Bin.; Tocker, £14 15s for 6in, £17 15s for Bin.; H. Hooker, £21 10s and £24 10s, or if suitable gravel was procurable at Stratford, £18 15s and £20 sa.— As the Board would find cement, bringing the total ooßt considerably above £20, the amount voted, it was resolved to call for fresh tenders, to close on August 22nd, and that a oopy of the specifications should be sent to Messrs Skinner and Sole, New Plymontb, for inspection by intending tenderers. Manganui Road Board. — The proposition that the Road Board should deal with the storm water on Pembroke Road, whilst tbe Town Board did the same on East Road, was agreed to. Mr Mulree't application. — In support, Mr Mulree stated that he understood the County Council were about to renew the culvert near his store. This would considerably lessen tho amount of work to be done by the Board. He also itated that owners of adjoining sections would contribute half the cost. It was resolved, (1) That the Clerk write to the County Council Btatiug that the Board wished .to form the footpath, and asking that the work at culvert should be put in hand; (2) That on receipt of a favorable answer from the Council, steps should be taken to have tbe footpath formed. Celia sireel. — Mr Smaller made an application that the deferred payment thirds from his land and from M»BBrs. Bowler & Plows be spent in culverts on Celia-street. — Agreed to, subject to the approval of the Crown Lands Ranger. School Entertainment. —Mr Irvine applied for the ÜBe of the Hall on the Bame term as last year. — Granted. Rink. — Mr O. S. Curtis applied on behalf: of the Stratford Rink Company for the use of the Hall for three months on Tuesday and (Saturday evenings on the same terms as granted to the dancing clasi, viz., 5s a night, also, for free admission on odo afternoon a week for ladies only. The Company would undertake that no damage shonld be done to the floor by the use of skates with metal wheels. — Granted. Mehaffy't Oree7e.—Mt Capper applied for work to be done at this crossing on the Pembroke Road htxat. He stated that it was now impassnble for wheel traffic. Messrs Reid & Mebaffy spoke in support of tbe application. After much discussion, an offer on the part of the paitieß interested to contribute £10 towards the expense, it was resolved that the foreman prepare plans and estimates, and that the Land Board be asked to allow the Board to forestall the deferred payment money coming from sections benefitted, in order to pet the work done. Cloton Road. — * Mr Sohierney applied for money to be spent in logging and draining on this road. — The Board promised to look into the matter. Lining the Hall. — The Chairman moved that the sum of £10 should be spent in lining the hall. He had been informed that- £5 was in hand from tbe recent entertainment, which, with £10 added, he estimated would about do the main hall, leaving tbe Bide rooms for a future occasion. Ho read an abstract of the Hall account, which showed that after pajiDg all expenses, insurance, and repairs, the Hall fund was £66 to the good. In other words, fiom an investment of £185 the Board was deriving nn income of over £30 a year, in addition to the public convenience. The total income derired from rates was below £20. He therefore considered the Board justified in improving the property, especially aB meetings of the R.M. Court were to bo commenced in September. — Messrß Mclkeh and BraniOAN spoko against the motion on the ground that the Hall waß good enough as it was, and that the money would be more profitably laid out in road work. — Messrs Curtis supported tho motion on the ground that as the Hall was, next to the hotel license, the chief source of income, it was only right that a part of the money it earned should be spent upon it. — The motion waß put and carried, the Chairman and Messrs Curtis (2) voting for, and Messrs Branigan and Mulree against. This concluded the business.

The committee of the Catholic Church entertainment have decided upon Friday, the 24th, as their date, and have mnde a successful application for the evening train to stop at Ngaire. No trouble is being spared to provide a first class evening's amusement. The Dramatic Club are to give " Dearest Mamma," the best looal talent is engaged for the ooncort, and the services of Mr Crowharst and the Messrß Amooro have been secured in the laughable Stage-Struck Darkey." Dancing will follow to the muaio of piano, violin, and cornet, and, to enable the company to " keep it up " in the usuul vigorous bußh fashion until " daylight doth appear," a supper of the most recherchi description will be provided by the ladies. I hear, too, that the decoration of the Hall is to be a feature oE the occasion. Altogether, tbe affair promises to be tvn unusdally brilliant one — even for Stratford.
