OPENING OF OMATA BUS H CHURCH
In the early days of the Buttlemont the want of buildings to hold divine serrioe in wa9 veiy much felt in the country districts. In 1854 some gentlemen in'ores ted themselves in erecting a church in the bush at tho back of Ouinrn, the architect bi'iag Mr |C. Barlow. The building was usid'for many years, and when tho war btoke out it waa one of tuo few that escaped bein^ destroyed by tho nntires. Although timo had causnd the dilapidation of tho building yet the timbers remtineil r^markubly sound. A f«w geutlemun a short tima since thought • he building might b» utilised if removed to another spot. Th«y accordingly collected Piihsoriptions for the purpose, and this litllo Bush Oharoh has now b3en ereotud at the j'inclinn of Woston ani Bwrett Roiils, oa a piece of h\n<l siven for the purpose by Mr Muller. Last Sunday tho church waaopeaed, whan, oooßiieriti^ the incletnun^y of tha weallnr, there was a Innje nu obor present. But for the wet thrre can be no doubt the bnil iinr would har« l>e?n too sin^ll to have held tho conureealhn, for numbers had ma-lo up thui: minis to bt present. Tha R-v. Mr Brown on this oooi«ion •delivered nn npi>ropriato sermon, pointing out the aiviintajc-R. as well as duty, of, aasemMin.? to :cih-r for publio worship. He took his text from llohrews x, 25. "Not fors4kin^ lU'tu^oinMh,'of ourselves together, ns tho minner of som-s is, but exhorting one another, un 1 so muoh more as ye see tho day apprnaohing." There are new two churchos in connection with tin; Churoh of Ei^land in the Omata disliict, so the settlers will have no need to complain that their spirit uul wants are not attended to. The church just erected will be opon for Sunday Sohool and divine sercioe every Sunday ntturnoon at a quarter to 3 o'olock, at whiah lime there will always ba a clergyman or lay reader present. Mr A. Kyn^don took an aotive part in got'.iaj; tho buiMipg removed awl renovated, and we have been requested to thank all those who, e:th°.r by subscription or in siivin,} material or Lbjur, hive so willingly come forward to aamt in the work.
