PARLIAMENTARY.
POLITICAL, GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON. [PROM OOE OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A LAPSUS LINGUjE. Wednesday, November 9. — Jdr. Moss, in putting; a question bearinsr upon the hardship of certain children who have to work long hours in the Ouehun»a woollen mills, made a peculiar slip of the tongue yesterday. "These children," he said, " were the future citizens of New Zealand," and, in this connection, he referred to the ' unborn millions," much to the amusement of tho House. Mr. Moss skilfully turned the laugh by reminding members that they themselves had been of the "unborn millions;" and, after drawing upon this at some length, he fairly amazed the House by pointing in tha direction of one hon. gentleman, instating him as " one of the unborn millions who now Bit in that House." REPEAL OF TRIENNIAL PARLIAMENT. Mr. Samuel has given notice of a bill to repeal the Triennial Parliaments Act. THE HIGH SCHOOL. He has also presented a petition from Mr. Henrjj Govett and others paying for the establishment of a Board of Governors for the New Plymouth High School ; and one from Mary Moore praying for a grant of land scrip to her as an immigrant. SITTING ON A HOLIDAY. As might have been expected, very little business was done to-day, though it is probable the financial debate will be pretty well finished to-night. NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION. There are rumors of a no-confidence motion, which are not likely, I fancy, to take any practical shape. NATIVE MEMBERS TAKE A - HOLIDAY. The native members this morning obtained an adjournment of the Native Affairs Committee, and did not sit in honor of the Prince of Wales' birthday Carrol's motion is again postponed, and the Union of the races is consequently still in the " want of time." Taipua's bill for repeal oE Native Lands Administration Act also stanis postponed. i FINANCIAL POSITION OF HARBOUR BOARD. Mr. Samuel today gave noticb of the following motion, li That a Salact Committee be appointed to enquire nto the financial position of tho New Plymouth Harbour Board, and to report their opinion whether tha Board ia likely to be able to continue to meet its annual charges, and if not whether such failure is in any respect owing to causes outside the control of the Board and which it could not have anticipated at the time of raising the New Plymouth Harbour Loan, and so make such recommendations as they may think reasonable. The Committee to consist of ten members, five to form a quorum and have power to call tor persons and papers, to consist of Sir John j Hall, Messrs. G. F. Richardson, Lirnacb, O'Connor, Stewart, Tanner, Ward, White and mover. BRYOE'S ELECTION PETITION. At the Supreme Court, in Chambers, to-day, an application was made by Mr. Travers to have the Bryce- Hutchison petition taken off the file, on account of it not sufficiently stating grounds. The Judge refused the application, but the petitioners were by consent ordered to give particulars of the charges in detail, specifying names and dates, such particulars to be delivered to tho respondent seven days before the day to be fixed for the hearing.
