[/ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] INGLE WOOD BAND OP HOPE. A MEETiNa of the above took place on Monday evening in the Ingle wood Wesleyan Church. There were present about 50 boys and girls. Mr. Peach and Miss Taylor played the harmonium in turns. Recitations were given by Master Broadmore, Mies Burrow, and Miss Agnes Laing, tho lattar rendering hers exceedingly well. Several temperance songs and hymns were sung in good style by the children. 1 took particular notice of one of them, and therefore noted down, to the tune of •' Well done, John. " :— " How glad I am to see you, John, Since you the pledge have signed, 1 am sure you are a better mau In body and in urind. Oh never care what others say, Their idle taunts and jeers, Can never fill your home so gay, Nor cause the grief of years. Mr. Peach addressed a few wholesome words to the children, telling them to stick fast to their blue ribbon, and never touch the bottle or go for beer for anyone. I am told there are over 100 children connected with this Band of Hope in Ingle wood. The Rev. Mr. Hutchison ia to give a lecture on temperance in tho Inglewood Town Hall on Wednesday week, when it is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance of the parents of the children and others. Admittance free. INGL.EWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE, A special meeting of the Inglewooi School Committee took place in the Schoolroom on the 24th October. Present : Messrs. R. Stevens Tarplen, Whitehouse, Miles, Pardon, and Liing (lion, secretary). — The Chairman explained the reason of tailing the meeting was to consider Mrs. Grant's application for three months' leave of absence on account of ill-health. Mr. Tarplen proposed, "That tho Committee reque3t tha Education Board to grant Mrs. Grant leave of absence, providing she can Had an efficient substitute to her own satisfaction." Seconded by Mr. Whitehouse, and carried. — The Chairman stated that he lud received a circular from Mr. Hill askiig this Committee to meet him and other Committee members on the sth November next, to consider the duties of Committees and the extent of their powers. Mr. Stevens moved that Messrs. Whitehouse und Tarpleu act as representatives from this Committee. Mr. Pardon wae selected, bu,t declined to act.
