Melbourne, October 21. — Further particulars regardiug tho wreck of tho Cheviot ia to hand. It appears the vessel lost her propeller when passiug through the Kip on Weduesday night, aud drifted on to the rocks, which she struck with great force. The crash broke her in two. All the passengers aud crew on the fore part ot the vessel were drowned, aud only the saloon passengers, captain, chief cook, third engineer, and two firemen were rescued.

Further particulars of the wreck of the s.s. Cheviot state that the captaiu behaved splendidly, aud that the passengers and crew showed great coolness.

Bight bodies havo been recovered from the wreck.

Tho latest accounts give the number of saved at twenty, whilst thhty-mue are said to have been drowned.
