« BRITISH AND FOREIGN TELEGRAMS. OABLIS MESSAGES. [FROM RIiUTER AND OTUER SOURCES] . ANOTHER DEMONSTRATION BY UNEMPLOYED. London, October 18. A monster demonstration by unemployed took place yesterday in Trafalgar Square. It is estimated that over four thousand men were present. A deputation to the Lord Mayor was appointed, whioh proceeded to the Mansion House. On arrival there, the deputation was received by the alderman in attendance, who, in response to the demand made for work for the unemployed, referred them to the workhouse authorities.

RIOTOUS PROCEEDINGS. On the deputation returning to Trafalgar Square, and announcing the result of the interview, a number of angry speeches were made by the leaders of the demonstration. The mob subsequently attempted to march in the direction of the city, but the police, who had been mustered in full strength, barred their progress, and forcibly dispersed the crowd. Several constables and civilians sustained injuries in the collision. Twenty persons were arrested for obstructing the police. THE MISSING GUNBOAT. Search has been made for the gunboat Wasp, which is supposed to have been lost on the homeward voyage from Singapore. It has, however, proved fruitless so far. THE AUSTRALIAN MAILS. The Treasury agree to pay a subsidy of £90,000 on the Australian mails, and ask Australia to contribute £80,000. THE NAVAL DEFENCE OF THE COLONIES. The Globe states that the Australian auxiliary fleet will consist of the' Archer, Brisk, Cossack, Amphion, and Lizard, all new vessels, the three first named being torpedo cruisers. In addition to these two fast cruisers and four smaller vessels will be kept as a reserve for Australia. Docks and shipyard will be erected at Sydney, and the necessary maohiuery and appliances have already been ordered. THE STANLEY FALLS. The Congo State is about to send an expedition to reconquer Stanley Falls, which are now in the hands of Arab slavers. SYDNEY LOAN 3. The Union Bank has been requested to suggest to the Sydney Corporation the propriety of inscribing the last loans. Westgarth's circular urges their inscription, which would have the effect of extending their demand and improve their value. BANKING PROSPECTS IN AUSTRALIA. The report of the Bank of South Australia states that the declining value of money has slackened the demand in the colonies, and the directors are not sanguine of any immediate improvement. The reserve fund has not been increased. PRECARIOUS CONDITION OF CROWN PoINCE. Berlin, October 17. The Crown Prince of Germany is in a precarious condition, and Dr. Mackenzie's experiments haviug been unsuccessful the Prince refuses to submit to further operations.
