[per united press assooiaiion.] FATAL ACCIDENT. Auckland, October 14. A girl, seven years old, the daughter of Key. J. Hawkes, of Whangarei, was killed -while playing among some firewood, through a log falling on her chest. JOE SCOTT GOING TO ENGLAND. Dunedin, October 14. Scott, the walker, goes to England to make matches there. EXPEDITIOUS RESCUE. During the voyage of the Margaret Qalbraith, a seaman named Peddington "was washed overboard by a heavy sea. The ship was brought to, and a boat lowered, and in less than 2£ minutes from the time he was washed overboard the man was back on board, none the worse for his adventure.
