POLITICAL GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON.
MEETING OF HOUSE ON TUESDAY. A Presß Association telegram states that there is a discrepancy as to the time of meeting of the House on Tuesday, but it need not cause any difficulty, as the Commission will simply announce that His Excellency's speech has been postponed. STOUT'S MOVEMENTS. Sir R. Stont stateß that he is not going to Melbourne, as announced by some journals. MIDLAND RAILWAY CONTRACT. With reference to the proposed alterations in tbe Midland Railway contract, it is stated that the Company wish them in order to inspire confidence on the Stock Exchange. Their own representatives are quite satisfied with the valuable nature of the concessions, Mr. Brodie Hoaro having stated that the forest block around Lake Branner would in itself pay the whole cost of the line. Half of this block the Company get in alternate sections, and the timber royalty alone is estimated to be worth ten thousand acres. For other land the Company have already been offered one pound per acre. ATKINSON UNDERTAKES TO FORM A MINISTRY. The result of the meeting of the Opposition was that Major Atkinson undertook to form a Ministry, and has proceeded to have an interview with tbe Governor.
