WANGANUI ITEMS.

THE LATE MR. HENRY CHURTON.

I FROM OUR OWN OOBBESPONDENT.] Wanganoi, September 1. — Mr. Henry Churton, who died here to-day, was at one time very wealthy, but he has died almost poor in consequence of having become guarantee to the Bank for another person. It is probable that the college for Maoris founded by him, will have to be closed in consequence. A curious coincidence ia the recent case of a fire in an empty building is that it is the sixth fire the same individual has had. The captain of the Fire Brigade has demanded an enquiry, as the circumstances clearly point to incendiarism.
