VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The monthly inspection of the Turanaki Rifles and Central School Cadets waß made on the reclaimed land on Monday evening, both companies mustering in full numbers. The band, under its conductor, was also in attendance. The Rifles were under Major Ellis, Captain Hoskin, and lieutenants Okey and Cock, and the Cadets under Lieutenant Surrey. Brigade-Surgeon O'Carroll was present. Colonel Stapp inspeoted the men, and complimented them on their smart and orderly appearance, after which he presented Vol. E. Ho well with the Company's belt, won at last Wednesday's match. Three cheers were given for the victorious competitor by the men, who were then marched round the town by the band, who played some very inspiriting marches at intervals. Volunteer Howell how holds the belt for the fourth time. Captain - Hoßkin, who has not competed for some times past, has also had the skill to win it four times. Lieut. Okey has held it twice, and so has another member of the company. The belt has been in competition for the last five years.
