MAIL CONTRACT. The Post Office authorities have forwarded to the Peninsular and Oriental 00. and the Orient Go. the final offer in connection with the proposed new contract for carriage of mails between England and Australia. It is expected the Companies will accept these proposals. NEW STEAMERS BUILDING. Huddart, Parker and Go., have ordered an eighteen-knot excursion steamer for Melbourne. She is to be fitted to carry machine guns. The Elingamite, another steamer, which is being built for the same firm, will bo fitted as an armed cruiser. LIBERAL UNIONISTS. All Liberal Unionists have been returned as members of the Eighty Club. BANQUET TO CONFERENCE DELEGATES. The delegates have been entertained at a banquet at St. Stephen's Club. Mr. E. Stanhope in the oourse of his speech remarked that he was a descendant of one of Captain Cook's companions, who landed at Botany Bay. Sirß. Wisdom responded to the toast of the guests. SOHOOL CHILDREN'S JUBILEE. The Prince of Wales is promoting a Jubilee scheme to entertain 80,000 Education Board scholars in Hyde Park in June. Her Majesty the Queen has promised to be present on the oooasion. CANNED MEAT FOR FRANCE. Paris, May 20. Eranoe has ordered four and a half milHon kilos of canned meat from Ghioago. .-^..PARNELL AND GLADSTONE DENOUNCED. Rome, May 20. The members of the Irish College at Rome, in addressing the Vatican, declare that Mr. Parnell has made traitors of the masses of the Irish people. They also scathingly condemned Mr. Gladstone. EVACUATION OF TROOPS FROM EGYPT. Constantinople, May 20. It is announced that a convention has been concluded between the Turkish and British Governments, whereby the period within which the evacuation of the Egyptian Territory by the British forces is to completed is fixed for three years. It further provides that in the event of internal troubles Egypt may be reoccupied by tho British troops, either conjointly or separately, as may previously be agreed upon. It is understood that no other Power should be allowed to intervene. AFGHAN FROSTIER COMMISSION. St. Petersburg, May 20. Col. Sir West Ridge way, ohief of the Afghan Boundary Commission is about to renew parleying at St. Petarsburg on the delimitation of the Afghan lroutier.
