HOSPITAL AND CH ARITABLE AID BOARD.

TnK Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met on Monday. Present : Messrs. Richmond (chairman), I. Bayly, J. Elliot, and T. Elliot.

Companion. — ,On Mr. J. Elliot's motion, seconded by Mr. T. Elliot, the action of the Chairman-in sanctioning the admission of an attendant on or companion to Mr. Marchant's son was approved.

Dispenser. — Mr. Sydney Pelham offered his services as dispenser at tho hospital. — The letter was ordered to be acknowledged, a dispenser not being required at present.

Hospital Grounds. — A letter was received from the Premier's office, stating that th>> Board's request that certain sections now vested in the School Commissioners be converted into hospital reserves could not be given effect to this year, on account of the Special Powers and Contracts Acts having been passed before the request was reoeived* — It was decided to ask that the matter be attended to next session.

Thanfci.-^-ltiwaH decided to ask the Rev H. H. Brown to convey the thanks of the Board to "A Friend," for a donation of £5 to the hospital, and £5 to charitable aid.

New Hospital. — Oa Mr. J. Elliot's motion,- seconded by Mr. I. Bayly, it was decided, " That a contribution at the rate of 91. in the £100 on the Property Tax valuation be levied upon tbe whole hospital district for tho purpo3B oE providing furniture for the new hospital aad laying out the grounds, such contributions to be payable Ist March', 1887."

Interdiction. — On Mr. J. Elliot's motion, seconded by Mr. T. Elliot, it was decided, " That in future no cases o£ puerperal fever or mania be admitted into tha New Plymouth hospital." It was also decided that inquiries be made as to the admission of a certain patient into the hospital.

Matron's Report. '■— Miss Blackley reported: " Extra nurses had to bo engaged to attend on mania oases, which bad to be nursed in separate wards. A kerosene stove was required for their use during the nighr, which was purchased by the Secretary. The washing, rations, etc., are all satisfactory. The following articles have been broken and require to be replaced : — 1 doz. pint mugs, 1 doz. dinner .plates, £ doz. basics, 1 , corjiacre.w, l r vegetable saucepan." The articles mentioned were authorised to be procured.

Altering Levies. — Mr. J. Elliot gave notice of motion that the figures "lO^fi. in the £100 '-' levied on the - Hawera subdistrict be altered to " Is. 4d. in the £100."

Accounts. — Hospital accounts amounting to £84 16s. 5d., and charitable aid accounts amounting to £58 6s. Id. weio passed for payment.

Receipts and Expenditure. — Tho following approximate statement of accounts from Ist August to 13tk September wus tabled:— Receipts: To maintenance, £59 Is. 31.; charitable aid (donations and refund), £7 17s. 61.; local bodies' contribution (Taranaki County, Clifton County, New Plymouth Borough), £118 11s. 4d ; Hospital grounds subscription, £23 45.; donation from Stratford Bush Firo Relief! Fund, £24 6s. lid.; building and property (account salee, King), £3 11s. 31,; overdraft Bank of New.Zealand, £248 18s. 4d.; total, £485 10s. 7d. Expenditure. — Balance overdraft 31st July, 1886. £165 9s. Id.; salaries and wages, £128 4s. 61.; hospital grounds improvements, £22 ss. 9d.; Hawera charitable aid, £43 13a. 4d.; harmonium fund, £20; charitable aid, £26 45.; medicines aud appliances, ' £25 18s. 10d.; fuel, £4 175.; furniture and utensils £48 18s. Id ;,lotul, £485 10a. 7d. ; Special-Meeting. — It was decided to hold a special meeting on Monday next. . The Board rose.
