A BPECUL court was held at Motueka on on Monday. A native named Park was Bu-;iUi r.jd by John Simpson ior trespassing upon native land hold by tho com plninaut under lease. It appeared that the lease expired on June 30th, but an oxteu(tuiu oi three months*, till Suptuniber 30th, hai uceii gunted until iurthes urrange-
ments might be made. TVf eanwhile Park hj»s begun ploughing the land; and although he was repeatedly remonstrated with, he continued pleughiug. The defendant waa lined five pounds for trespassing, and costs £1 17s. 6d., with the option of two months' hard labour. The fine was paid. For come time past Park has been tning to get all the land he oould into his own hinds to re-let on his 'own account;Hd is a North Island native, but settled htn-e on his 'murri'ige with r a' Motuoka native. It is generally belioved that Park was engaged in tho^last war against theEuropeans. He was wounded, and carries the mark. Ho was in the North Island when the last ploughing took place the_re, which resulted in Te Whiti being arrested, and was ploughing there, but he 1 cleared a way prior to the, arrests. » j
, Tho Government have grantjed Mr. Justice. Gillies extended leave of absence, and 'District' Judge Ward has been promoted > temporarily to the {Supremo 'Coiirt Bench. ■
