URENUI.

[from our own correspondent.] July 5. — Titokowaru and party passed through hero on Saturday last, from Pukearuhe. The number was limited this time, there not being more than 300. I hear they proceed to Patea on the go-around style again, some of the natives hero accompauying them. When the natives that belong here come back they will build several whares at Waitara, so that when these parties come there agaia they will not want to sleep in tents. This district is progressing by dogreest . Mr. Halcombo on his property is having a good deal of work done in the shape of fencing and clearing, and is going to have several acres of bush felled. He will be a great acquisition to this district, for he evidently intends to make a nice place of bis property. Mr. H. Brown has had a nice house of nine rooms erected on his property acroan the Urenui river. Speculation is rife here as to the route ' the branch line will ultimately go to connect Taranaki with the Main North Line. The Minister for Public Works states that from information they have a good line can be got to join the North lino about GO miles south of Te Awamutu, and thence by way of Te Ao, Ohant| and Tangarakau river?, and then to a branch from tho Minn" river, and so to the coast, and then to Waitara. Tho Minister for Public Works stated in his speech that if tho House desired it a lino could bo surveyed. Wo hence trust that our member, backed up by all tho northern members, wilt ask the Government for this email favor. It would not be much to a9k for I think if you look through the amounts down for railways on the south compared with what is down for the north. According to population wo have not had our share of the loan money in tho north in tho past, oni it does not seem likely (although our population has largely increased) that we shall get it in the future. Surely come of the northern members will see into this when the Public Works Statement is debated, and try and gee a little more out of the million and a half, which is proposed to be expended thia year and next. If we are to continually go on in expenditure as before, I think it would bo better to havo financial ooparation, which would possibly be an advantage to the 'North Island.
