BENEFIT TO MR. J. S. SMITH.

It will be seen by an announcement elsewhere that Mr. J. Smith, who has catered so frequently for the amusement of the New Plymouth public, takes a benefit to-morrow (Friday) night, on which occasion a special programme will be offered. We understand the performance is under the patronage of. His Worship the Mayor, and Borough Council, Colonel Stapp, Dr. O'Carroll, and the officers and members of the local forces. The Cogill Brothers, American Minstrele, have given their services, and several local amateurs and others will also kindly assist — amongst whom we may mention Messrs. Cottier, Rapp, and Drew. The Town Band will also perform a choice programme at half-past seven. The full programme of tho enVertakment will appear in tomorrow's issue, and we have no doubt the affair will be a great success, as the popular beneficiare deserves.
