AM 11US01BLE EDIIOB, Dunedin, October 1. <• As Mr. Ashcroft, the late editor of the Times, was leaving tho Post-office on Saturday, he referred to a remark made by Mr. Smith, a solictor, to a friend, of an insulting nature, and asked Smith to repeat it. Smith did so, and Ashcroft struck him with a stick he was carrying. Smith's friends interfered, and prevented the matter going further.
