Melboubnb, October 1. An alarming tragedy occurred at the Bank of Victoria this afternoon. Harry Thomas, a customer of a branch Bank at Heathcote, where he carried on business as an auctioneer, entered the city office and mounted a table in the centre of the chamber, shouting — ■ " Revenge," aad then drawing a revolver attempted to commit suicide, firiug first at the ceiling and then at his head, inflicting a serious wound, which, however, is not expected to prove fatal. A meeting was held to-day at Castlemaine, when resolutions in favor of the Pacific annexation schcsnie were enthusiastically passed. In the divorce suit Bolam v. Bolam the jury were unable to agree upon a verdict, and were discharged. The Victorian revenue for the quarter amounts to £1,310,000, being a decrease of £13,000 as compared with the corresponding period last year. During the same period the customs revenue decreased £2000 ; excise, £16,000 ; and territorial revenue, £37,000. The receipts from railways, however, increased £1000 during the quarter, Sydney, October 1. The annual demonstration of the Eighth League is taking place to-day. There is an enormous attendance, and the weather is fine. The ship Dharwar, from London, with immigrants, has arrived in port. The doctor is prostrated with fever, and the ship has been quarantined. Adelaide, October 1South Australian revenue for the quarter ended September 30, amounted to £495,000, beiug a decrease of £82,000 as compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. During the period the revenue from customs duties decreased by £21,000 ; and that from land by £22,000.
