SUPREME COURT.

[per press association.] Wellington, October 1. — At the Supreme Court, Wm. Smith, for larceny, was sentenced to six months ; Job Little, for larceny from the person, was sentenced to 12 months. Christchurch, October 1. — The Criminal Sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr. Justice Johnston in his charge congratulated the Grand Jury on the Tightness of t'ae calendar, which he said was one of the lightest he had known oince he first presided at the Court. There were only six persons charged, though sdne of the offences were of a serious nature. He was sorry to see an offence of forgery again on the sheet, there being no fewer than five charges of this nature against one individual. Dunedin, October 1. — At the Supreme Court Session, Duncan Carmichael was acquitted on a charge of horse stealing ; Maud Hamilton was convicted of robbery from the person, sentence being deferred.
