LAND BOARD.
Thk Land Board met on Monday. Present: Messrs. G D. Whitcombe, Chief Commissioner (presiding), Standish, Crompton, and Syme. Deferred Payment Lands.— A. statement was received from the Treasury, showing the amount at the credit of the County of Taranaki and Road Districts within the Land District of Turanaki on account of land disposed of on deferred payments on 31st March, 1882. The amounts were as follows:— Countyof TuniDaki, £200 145.2 d.; Clifton Road Board, £5 9s. 5d. ; Manganui Road Board, £55 os. 2d. ; Moa Road Board, £27 1 Is. Bd. ; Ngaire ttoad Board, £ 1 72 ss. 4d. Total, £461 os. 9d. — A letter was read from Thomas E. Crowburst, stating that he had boen requested by a number of settlers in the Ngaire District, who have beea heavy losers by the present disastrous season, to ask the Board to endeavor to make as favorable a concession as possible in respect to payment of instalments, to enable ta 'in to recover their present severe loss. — The Chairman was directed to reply that when the individual applications for extension of
time for payment of instalments were sent in, the Board would favorably consider the same.
Ranger's Report. — A report by the Ranger was read re the best means of opening up the Crown Lands in the Taranaki District for sale during the present financial year. — It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Standish, seconded by Mr. Crompton, " That a copy of the Ranger's report re opening roads for the purpose of providing lands for settlement in this district be forwarded to the Minister for Lands, and stating that the Board strongly recommends that appropriations be made for giving full effect to the reooinmendations pointed out by Mr. Robinson, and that a copy of the report be forwarded to each of the members of the Provincial District, requesting them to aid in giving effect to the Board's recommendations, and calling their attention to the fact that out of £2000 appropriated for these needful works last year £300 only was expended, and the large sum of £1700 was allowed to lapse." Application for Land. — Messrs. Campbell Brothers applied to purchase a piece of land (not njinbered) in block 10, Ngaire.— The application was referred to the Chief Surveyor for his consideration. The Board adjourned.
