LICENSING IN AUCKLAND.

Auckland, June 7. Port Albert Licensing Committee unanimously refused the application for a publican's license for the Battley Hotel. This closes the only hotel in the district. The Cambridge Lioensing Committee refused to grant a license for Gan's Working Mens' Club, though the poll of ratepayers was three to one for an increase of licenses.

Noel refused to go, when Dawkins knocked him down, and then No6l presented a revolver at him, but was prevented from using it. Noel, in defence, pleaded serious provocation, and said that having lately been severely bitten by a dog, he had since carried a revolver to protect himself. The statement about the dog was shown to be correct, and the Bench, remarking that Dawkins had been the aggressor, dismissed the case, but confiscated the revolver. A SHOOTING CASK. Last night a man named David McNiven was arrested ior shooting with a revolver at John Granville at Toomber's boarding-house. Jealousy is said to have been the cause of the offence. RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
