RISE OF WAGES AT THE THAMES. Auckland, Norember 4. On account of the exodus of miners to Parihaka with the Thames Volunteers, wages have gone np from 7s. to Bg. 6d. per day. [per united press association.] ANGLO-JEWISH ASSOCIATION. Wellington, November 3. A branch of tbe Anglo. Jewish Association, tbeobjeot of wbich is to promote education in tbe East, has been established here. TOBACCO GROWING IN FIJI. Mr. Edmonds from Fiji is here with excellent samples of tobacco leaf grown in Fiji, and is trying to get a Company formed to establish a tobacco manufactory here. He says be could supply fifty tons of leaf during the first year at from ninepence to one shilling per pound, delivered here. The estimated capital required is £2000. GAZETTE NOTICES. The regnlatioos are gazetted under the Deceased Persons Estate Duties Act. TAURiNGA RE-OPENED AS PORT OF ENTRY. Tanranga is re-opened as a port of entry. Mr. BROOKFIELD APPOINTED R.M. Mr. F. M. Brookfield has been appointed a Justice of the Peace and Resident Magistrate for Anckland, with jurisdiction to £50, during the absence of Mr. J. E. Macdonald. SIR WILLIAM FOX AT MARTON. Marton, November 3. Sir William Fox addressed a crowded meeting last evening, and received an unanimous voteof confidence and thanks.
The Legion op Honor. — In addition to the award of the Gold Medal (L'Academie Nntionale), and also the Silver Medal, awarded to John Brinsmead & Sons, of Wigmore-strect. London, for the superiority of the Piano exhibited by them last year at the Paris Exhibition, the founder of the firm has been created Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, this distinction being conferred on Jno other British Pianoforte Mannfacturer.
